Some records never really leave. They simply find new ways back. !Sooks and J’Something, featuring King Dashnote, reimagine a deep house classic with “Bring On The Night”, released on Stay True Sounds on 7 August 2026.
A record with history
Originally written by Sting, the song found a second life in house music through Cloudkickers feat. Marcus, whose version was released on Newlite Muzik in 2007. Rocco Rodamaal’s TroDeep Remix, released across 2008 and 2009, turned it into one of the defining deep house records of its era. Alongside the Rocco Dub it became a fixture in DJ sets around the world, and nowhere did it resonate more than in South Africa.
The next chapter
Produced by Eswatini-born producer !Sooks and featuring a brand-new vocal performance from J’Something, this interpretation honours the emotion and atmosphere of the original while giving it a distinctly modern perspective.
The project began as an instrumental reinterpretation, already a favourite among selectors including Kid Fonque, Ralf GUM and Jullian Gomes. As momentum built, one question emerged: “What if this version had a voice?”
Rather than recreating what came before, the pair approached the song with restraint. !Sooks’ production leaves space for J’Something’s vocals, adding a fresh emotional dimension without losing the spirit that made the record so enduring. The result feels equally at home on late-night dancefloors, radio playlists and personal listening sessions.
The artists
!Sooks (Sukoluhle Dlamini) was born in Mbabane, Eswatini. Since his breakthrough 7 Years of Colour EP he has built a catalogue across Stay True Sounds, Atjazz Record Company and House Afrika, and his relationship with Stay True Sounds began with the Viking EP in 2018. He has performed at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), MTN Bushfire, Rocking the Daisies and Mixmag’s The Lab Johannesburg.
J’Something is the lead vocalist, songwriter and frontman of Mi Casa, and has built a solo career with releases including Indoor, Not Alone and Asimbonanga. On this record he delivers a measured, deeply expressive performance that complements !Sooks’ production rather than overpowering it.
